California to Become a Sanctuary State

SB 149, which the state Senate approved in May, would require all presidential candidates to share their tax returns from the last five years before being eligible to appear on California's ballot.

After clearing the Assembly on Thursday, the measure needs final approval from the Senate before going to Gov.

More than three years ahead of the next presidential election, Donald Trump has likely already lost California and all of its 55 electoral votes as the State Assembly there has passed legislation that requires presidential candidates to release their tax returns. Jerry Brown. Under the measure, drug companies would have to alert health insurers at least 60 days before they plan to increase the price of a drug if the increase is at least 16% over a 2-year period.

California lawmakers have approved a bill to make the most populous USA state a sanctuary state for immigrants who do not have legal residency.

The Legislature also finds and declares that a Presidential candidate's income tax returns provide voters with essential information regarding the candidate's potential conflicts of interest, business dealings, financial status, and charitable donations. The returns would be made public online.

California lacks an estimated 1.5 million affordable housing units compared to demand, and the state's homelessness rate is disproportionately high.

"President Trump's blatant disregard for the tradition of releasing tax returns is risky to our democracy", Senator Mike McGuire (D), one of the authors of the bill, said in a statement.

Senator Scott Wiener (D), another author of the bill, said the bill is about "giving the American people the honesty and transparency they deserve".
