Drunk driver accused of having 8-year-old drive vehicle for him

Pennsylvania police say an intoxicated New Castle man had an 8-year-old girl to drive him around after spotting her on the side of the road and forced her into his vehicle.

The caller told dispatchers a small child was driving, according to the criminal compaint.

Police were then told the auto had stopped on Little Beaver Road on the outskirts of Darlington Township after nearly crashing twice.

The girl reportedly told police she and Cook, 24, got in the vehicle at her grandmother Brenda Spencer's house. The girl reportedly told officers they that left from her grandmother's home. The two witnesses also stopped Cook from fleeing the scene, reports indicate.

Arriving officers said Cook was so drunk that he couldn't finish a sobriety test.

"To have an eight-year-old drive, that's just wrong", a local resident said. The officer had to catch him to keep him from falling to the ground, according to police.

Darlington Township Police Chief Al Filauri told the news station the girl has no relation to the man with whom she was driving. The 24-year-old is charged with endangering the welfare of a child, driving under the influence and driving without a license.
