JJ Abrams to make live-action version of anime blockbuster 'Your Name'

It was also revealed that Paramount Pictures and Bad Robot Productions had acquired the rights to a live action adaptation and have begun to work together to create the film, with Eric Heisserer ( Arrival ) writing the script. It's the highest-grossing worldwide with massive popularity in Japan and China, and the fourth-highest grossing film of all time in Japan. However, it also found huge success with global audiences, as well as being praised generally for its animation and moving plot.

It's also unclear where the live-action film will be set. Over the course of the movie, they realize they move through time as well as space. The pic held the top spot for 12 non-consecutive weeks running in Japan, and then became the highest-yielding Japanese film ever to release in China.

"Just like in the film it feels like a dream", he said.

"The meetings so far have been creatively stimulating with fantastic ideas that no doubt will make for a great movie", Kawamura said.

Hollywood doesn't have the best track record for making brilliant anime films into live action, but Your Name is such a handsome, universal story, it could be something special.
