Jose Mourinho puts Paul Pogba in 'long-term injury bracket'

United's midfield were suddenly short of players with Pogba, Carrick, Fellaini all reportedly injured leaving just Herrera and Matic available for selection.

"He's injured, he cannot play on Saturday and it's not an injury that I can have the hope like I have with Antonio Valencia or Phil Jones", Mourinho said.

And Mata admits that not depending on one man to get the goals has been key for the side this season and there has been zeal from others to make their presence felt, even from the substitutes' bench. "So Ibra [Zlatan Ibrahimovic] and Pogba and Marcos Rojo, these players I don't think about them".

Both Rojo and Ibrahimovic ruptured their anterior cruciate ligaments last April and are not expected to return until late December at the earliest.

The biggest issue Mourinho has to worry about at the moment is the fact that Paul Pogba is out for a long time, with Mourinho not setting a date for the player to come back and calling it a long term injury and something he would not speak about.

Speaking ahead of Crystal Palace's visit to Old Trafford on Saturday, Mourinho revealed that the France worldwide will not be available for the foreseeable future.

Their return to the Champions League has also started well, with a 3-0 win over Basel followed by a comprehensive 4-1 thrashing of CSKA Moscow on Wednesday. "We have to wait for them and hope there are not many problems".

"But I think we could do better, but the important thing are the three points, that's it".

"It's great to have these players, because as managers we do not have an easy life now".

"There were suggestions but not from me".
