Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan confirmed as new

Katy Perry's finally got company! Ryan Seacrest, who hosted the original version of American Idol, on Fox, will return as the show's host.

The judges panel and host will make their debut together during an appearance on ABC's Good Morning America on October 4.

"I am very excited to be joining Katy, Luke and Ryan [Seacrest] on American Idol", says Richie in a statement.

"Luke and Lionel are the ideal additions to round out our panel of judges for "American Idol" on ABC", declared ABC Entertainment president Channing Dungey in a statement.

"Can't wait to see you guys, can't wait to be a part of the show, and I'm so excited to see all the talent out there that America has".

Singers Katy Perry and Lionel Richie will sit alongside Bryan on the panel.

She said: "I am honored and thrilled to be the first judge bringing back the American Idol" tradition of making dreams come true for incredible talents with authentic personalities and real stories.

Country music has fared well on American Idol over the years, producing three winners and several others like Kellie Pickler and Lauren Alaina who remain active on television and radio. Carrie Underwood was the genre's first victor in 2005, with Scotty McCreery following in 2011 and Trent Harmon in 2016. "I'm so honoured, and we're gonna have some fun".

Ad Week reported Friday that new seasons of "Once Upon a Time", "Shark Tank", and other ABC programs would be moved around the schedule in order to accommodate the program.
