Makhosi Khoza's resignation proof that ANC will not self-correct

The group of 101 stalwarts said while Khoza's decision to leave "appears rational", she should have stayed to end the "nightmare engulfing the country".

She says a diagnostic report presented by ANC Secretary General Gwede Mantashe at the party's policy conference earlier this year, confirmed that scandals involving Zuma had caused unhappiness and cost the party.

Wolmarans was convicted of ordering a hit on councillor Moss Phakoe and served 20 months in jail before the conviction was set aside.

Khoza, a critic of President Jacob Zuma, was about to be disciplined by the ANC for supporting a no-confidence motion against Zuma on August 8.

The opposition Democratic Alliance (DA) welcomed Khoza's move, saying her resignation proved that the ANC cannot and will not self-correct.

Sisulu has also called on the President to be guided by the ANC's top six when making changes to his Cabinet.

"There is one thing we must appreciate, some members of the ANC are as conflicted as I was".

Khoza resigned from the African National Congress on Thursday during a media briefing, labelling the party alien and corrupt. I have reached the point where I believe the ANC will not self-correct.

She denied speculation that she would join the DA. Even my academic achievements were inspired by her.

ANC spokesman Zizi Kodwa said the ANC was not surprised by Khoza's resignation. She said that rationale was quite understandable under the circumstances.

"We have in the past discovered that she harbours uncontrollable ambitions of being a minister", he told television broadcaster eNCA.

The veterans added: "We should not abandon the ANC to those who are involved in state capture and corruption".
