Jose Mourinho insisted after beating Everton that he "didn't think a single second about Manchester City" because he was more anxious about making the most of Manchester United's other title rivals dropping points.

Meanwhile, Liverpool have struggled in the last few fixtures as they are without a win since the last global break. They've been brutally efficient in putting lesser opponents to the sword, and with September 9th's 2-2 draw against Stoke City their only blemish across their first five games, during which they've already scored 16 goals.

Mourinho said: "I didn't think one single second about Manchester City". The game was not as easy as the score indicates, but I honestly think that we deserved the victory. Personal gain can not be at the forefront of every player's mind.

"The 2-0 came and after that the third and fourth goal are just a effect of a team that are sad and another team that is happy".

On the other hand, the strength of United, embodied by the likes of Marouane Fellaini and Romelu Lukaku, could make them more robust when we get deep into winter and those qualities become more valuable.

One look at the demeanour of the two managers tells you how much better both Manchester sides have been this season.

With Paul Pogba nursing a hamstring injury and Mourinho set to give Matic a rest, Carrick and Herrera could be given their chance in the League Cup game against Burton Albion later on Wednesday.

"Any comment, any rumour is totally wrong because we don't know if it is 12 weeks or 12 days".

The Daily Mail reports that United will seek advice on the situation, with club sources stressing they have a zero tolerance to racism.

The Athletic Bilbao youth product made 50 appearances for the Red Devils in all competitions last season, bagging two goals in the process.

Mata was also keen to highlight Rooney's return to Old Trafford after his summer move back to Everton, after he received applause as he came off the team coach and a standing ovation when he was substituted late on.
