Amazon announce new waterproof Kindle Oasis

Different to last year's six-inch kindle, the new Oasis is now a significant seven inches, meaning page numbers will be cut down considerably, giving you the extra bonus of having over 30% more words per page.

What is more interesting is the fact that this is the first Kindle Oasis device which is waterproof.

Amazon has introduced a new version of its Kindle e-book reader - Kindle Oasis.

The Amazon Kindle Oasis with 8GB storage and Wi-Fi has been priced at Rs 21,999, while the 32GB variant that comes with Wi-Fi + 3G connectivity is being offered for Rs 28,999. Last month, the company introduced several new Echo speakers and rolled out refreshed tablets. The waterproof Kindle e-readers are rated IPX8, which means that they can survive sitting in two meters of fresh water for one hour.

Because the waterproof Kindles are larger than previous models, Amazon is also releasing a new set of water-resistant covers, which will double as handy reading stands.

The e-reader is now up for pre-order on and will start shipping from November 13. The device was the slimmest and lightest e-reader by the brand at the time. The 7-inch Kindle Oasis features a metal chassis and it's completely waterproof (IPX8 rating).

The Kindle Oasis comes with Bluetooth connectivity to let you connect wireless headphones or speakers.

This latest Amazon eReader has Wi-Fi support and a 3G model. The 32GB version will also be available with a 3G connection for [$280], which can be used within more than 100 countries. The base model - without 4G capability and with 8 GB of storage - costs $250 (roughly Rs. 16,290).

The tech giant also believes it can counter falling figures with improved durability and specifications, and said its new Kindle is the "most advanced ever". The water-proof fabric covers are priced at Rs. 2,999 on and come in three colours - Charcoal, Indigo and Sandstone. The device integrates Amazon's Audible audiobook service, which is a first for a Kindle.
