Amazon hiring thousands of seasonal workers in IN for the holidays

"Amazon hiring same number of workers as previous year reflects their efficiency and not necessarily the cost of hiring workers", D.A. Davidson analyst Thomas Forte said.

Amazon is also looking to hire in Alabama, Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Washington, and Wisconsin.

As a result, several United States retailers, including Macy's Inc and Kohl's Corp, have been focusing on their online businesses and have ramped up hiring seasonal workers to man their distribution centres that support online operations.

The positions are available at the company's network of fulfillment centers, sortation centers and customer service sites, according to a company a news release. There are already more than 125,000 full-time Amazon employees working at more than 75 fulfillment centers, where items are picked, packed and shipped. Some of the positions will be filled by people who return to the company year after year.

It's also an opportunity to get a full-time gig.

Of course Amazon isn't the only place offering positions.

Earlier this year, Amazon announced it was hiring 5,000 people who would be able to work from home in customer service roles.

Department store operator Target Corp, however, was an outlier, saying it plans to employ 43 percent more temporary workers this year than last year as its turnaround efforts take hold.

USA shoppers are expected to spend between $678.75 billion and $682 billion on holiday shopping this year, a growth of 3.6 percent to 4 percent over last year, according to the National Retail Federation (NRF).
