Conte hints that young midfielder could start against Palace

Kante is set for three weeks out with the hamstring problem he suffered while playing for France during the worldwide break, but there is encouraging news on Morata, who could recover from his own hamstring injury in time to face Roma in midweek. We must have patience with him, with his calf problem.

"I hope to have him back very soon, I hope for the next game against Roma", the Chelsea boss confirmed. We don't have another player with the same characteristics. But PSG are looking to add steel to their midfield and with money no apparent object, Kante is top of their list after continuing the superb form he showed at Leicester City that attracted Chelsea initially.

Chelsea's injury concerns leave Tiemoue Bakayoko and Cesc Fabregas as Conte's only fit senior options in central midfield, and Conte suggested he could turn to academy youngsters Kyle Scott and Ethan Ampadu to start or deploy defenders further up the pitch in the coming weeks.

"For sure we are not lucky in this period because of all our midfielder we only have Bakayoko and Fabregas available".

"Drinkwater is progressing well but he's not ready yet".

"[From] the previous scan maybe [Kante will be out for] around 20, 25 days, but in this situation you must pay great attention". "When I made a decision to use him in the midfielder against Tottenham, it could be an option if I play with three midfielders".

"In Kante's situation you have to have another scan to understand the situation very well", Conte said.

The centre-half most likely to step into a midfield role is David Luiz, who has performed there previously, but Conte is wary of simply shifting a problem from one area of his team to another.

Morata didn't play for Spain over the last fortnight, but Conte hopes he will return to face Roma at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday. If I can I prefer don't change a lot, also because you [could] try and find a solution and you lose something with the defence.
