Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie suspended after leaving Giants facility

The New York Giants suspended cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie on Wednesday after he left practice early.

Rodgers-Cromartie has been one of the Giants' key defensive players, missing just two games since he arrived in NY.

"DRC came in yesterday, we had a conversation that was personal upstairs and he came in today and chose to leave", McAdoo told reporters.

NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported the suspension stemmed from a "heated" argument between Rodgers-Cromartie and McAdoo that began when the cornerback was pulled from Sunday's game against the Chargers.

When asked further questions, McAdoo repeatedly declined to give any more information on the suspension, including the subject of his conversation with Rodgers-Cromartie and the length of the suspension. So the team suspended him.

Rodgers-Cromartie tallied 26 combined tackles and a half-sack across the first five contests.

There was also an altercation during the Giants' loss to the Chargers. If the Giants cut him, he would carry $2 million in dead cap space for 2018, a savings of $6.5 million. It wouldn't be a surprise given how things are going for the Giants this season.

In an interesting turn, the Giants had previously demoted starting cornerback Eli Apple for Rodgers-Cromartie following last week's game. Collins, wide receiver Sterling Shepard, defensive end Olivier Vernon, center Weston Richburg, running back Paul Perkins and linebacker Jonathan Casillas all missed practice Wednesday because of injuries and are in danger of missing Sunday's game at Denver.
