France Boss: Why I Snubbed Martial

Deschamps has named his squad for Les Bleus' final World Cup qualifying games with Bulgaria and Belarus and Martial was arguably the most notable omission.

Spurs goalkeeper Hugo Lloris, Arsenal duo Olivier Giroud and Laurent Koscielny and Chelsea midfielder N'Golo Kante are also included, with Paris St Germain's Kylian Mbappe, Juventus midfielder Blaise Matuidi and Atletico Madrid's Antoine Griezmann among the other big-name players selected.

France boss Deschamps claims to be aware of the improvements being made, but feels the forward is still in need of more starts if he is to work his way back into the global fold. 'Scoring those goals in the first half, it was probably the best first half we have played all season. All 24 players want to start.

Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba is out injured, with teammate Anthony Martial again snubbed by Deschamps in spite of his good form.

The France global has scored five goals in his first eight games this season and looks to have become a more trusted member of Jose Mourinho's squad after struggling for games previous year. He's more used by Mourinho. It's a choice. He was there during the Euros, he went through a tough time, which he got over. This will make him well rested for the rivalry clash at Liverpool on October 14th, and that is certainly delighting United supporters.
