Indians DH Encarnacion hopes to return for Game 5

After each divisional series began with two-game leads, the New York Yankees have emerged as a possible upset contender as they forced Game 5 thanks to excellent pitching.

Until the last two games in NY, the Tribe had not lost two in a row since since August 22-23.

Gary Sanchez homered and a slumping Judge laced an early two-run double for his only hit of the series to go with 12 strikeouts in 15 at-bats.

Trevor Bauer (17-9) will be on the mound for Cleveland.

I picked Cleveland to win in five games, but I will not be shocked if the Yankees win on Wednesday night at Progressive Field. The defending AL champions made only 76 errors all season, the lowest total in the league.

"We know how unsafe he is", Girardi said.

The Astros' expected Game 1 starter, Dallas Keuchel, has owned the Yankees in his career, though.

Before his Game 2 fiasco, Kluber hadn't given up more than two runs in an outing since August 13.

"It's hard to imagine giving it to somebody better", Francona said. The victor of Wednesday's ALDS matchup will move on to battle the Houston Astros, who used a late comeback Monday to finish off the Boston Red Sox. Same goes for Tommy Kahnle, who bailed out the extremely inconsistent Dellin Betances in Game 4, with a dominant two-inning outing. The last time the Indians lost consecutive games was August 22-23 at home against Boston, just before starting their AL-record 22-game winning streak. From that point on, Cleveland had gone 35-4 before arriving in the Bronx for Game 3 of the ALDS. He last pitched in the Wild Card win over the Minnesota Twins, giving up three earned runs on four hits in his one-out appearance. "I think that, to me, it's a game in the postseason".

"It's an outstanding movie, if you haven't seen it", Girardi said. "He was able to channel things down and make his pitch, as opposed to just trying to power his way through it".

A lot of adrenaline, emotions are running high for both sides.

Then the Tribe was terrible in Monday's 7-3 loss.

The first of two costly errors by normally sure-handed third baseman Giovanny Urshela, a.224 hitter in the lineup for his defense, was a painful one.

With two outs, Todd Frazier pulled a 78 miles per hour curve to deep left and it landed smack on the foul line for an RBI double. "That's why you try to get home field advantage". That allowed Kluber to come back on full rest.

After pulling in at second base, he clapped and pointed to the Yankees dugout.

The Yankees won, 1-0. All four runs he allowed were unearned. "CC, I thought, threw a pretty good game here the last time". That's part of being a starting pitcher. Jason Kipnis is 4-for-18 with a triple. The veteran slugger hasn't played since spraining his right ankle in a play at second base in Game 2 on Friday.

"It's not always going to be 72 and sunny", Francona said. OF Brandon Guyer is scheduled for surgery Wednesday in Arizona to fix a tendon in his left wrist, ending any chances of him playing in this postseason.

The Yankees got to Cleveland ace Corey Kluber in Game 2 for six runs in just 2 ²/₃ innings, knocking the Cy Young candidate out of the game.

Luis Severino (14-6) will start for the Yankees. "We realize that. You've got to fight through it together and that's what we intend to do".

Yankees: If they don't win Game 5, it could be Sabathia's final outing for the Yankees.

Rizzo blooped a tiebreaking single into left field with two outs in the eighth and the Cubs overcame Max Scherzer's brilliant performance to beat the Washington Nationals 2-1 on Monday for a 2-1 lead in their NL Division Series.

The bad news is the Yankees went on to lose that game, with Joe Girardi and the bullpen managing to blow a five-run lead.
