IPS officer caught cheating in UPSC mains

The officer Safeer Karim is now posted as ASP at Nanguneri.

Chennai, An Indian Police Service (IPS) officer, aspiring to enter the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), was arrested for cheating in the civil services main exam with Bluetooth equipment, a police officer said on Monday. His wife reportedly dictated the answers to him from Hyderabad.

An IPS officer was caught cheating during the exam held in Chennai.

Safeer Karim, now an Assistant Superintendent of Police in Tirunelvelli district, was caught talking to his wife in Hyderabad for answers, according to the officer. He along with his wife run a civil services coaching classes called Karim's La Excellence, which has branches in Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi, Kozhikode, Bhopal and Hyderabad.


According to media reports, Safeer is popular among civil service aspirants in Kerala.

"The photo of question paper was clicked with the camera in the shirt button and automatically sent via gmail to his wife Joicy". The IB officers handed him over to police, who booked him under relevant sections of the IPC, including 420 (cheating and dishonesty) and 120b (criminal conspiracy), and under provisions of the IT Act, and took him into custody. Officers said he faces dismissal from the IPS because he is still on probation. "He has told a few of his friends that he felt he couldn't bear the physical strain of the police services", a police officer disclosed.

Karim wanted to join the IAS, so he chose to appear in the UPSC exam one more time.
