J&K: Two LeT killed in encounter, two IAF soldier martyred

Two militants were reportedly killed in the encounter. Two IAF Garud personnel, who were part of the operation for training and experience goal, were fatally injured in the exchange of fire.

Srinagar/Jammu and Kashmir, October 11: Two Indian Air Force guard commandos and two Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militants were killed in a gunfight in Jammu and Kashmir's Bandipora district on Wednesday, according to an army official.

Nasrullah Mir and another militant, Abu Bakar alias Ali Baba of Pakistan were killed in a brief gunfight with forces in Hajin area of Bondipora.

The injured personnel were evacuated to 92 Base Hospital, Srinagar, where they succumbed to injuries. Two Air Force Garud personnel were also martyred in the action. They were part of the first Garud squad to be attached with the Rashtriya Rifles unit in August after they underwent a two-week pre-induction training.

The Army said in a statement that "befitting" tributes were paid to the two IAF martyrs at a wreath-laying ceremony at Srinagar's Badami Bagh cantonment, home of the 15 (Chinar) Corps.

The firing had stopped and search operations were on, local sources said.

The IAF said the joint team of IAF personnel and the Army laid a cordon around a house in Hajin village after getting intelligence input that 5-6 terrorists were hiding in it.

As per the reports, the Khalid was killed in the joint operation by the Jammu and Kashmir Police's Special Operation Group, CRPF and Army. The security forces have been giving a befitting reply and foiling all attempts to vitiate atmosphere in the state. Director General of Jammu and Kashmir Police S P Vaid had said it was a major breakthrough for the security forces as the militant was involved in many attacks on security camps in North Kashmir as well as targeting policemen in particular.
