LeBron James blames himself for Cavaliers' preseason loss vs Bulls

Apart from not being able to play in their last National Basketball Association 2017 preseason game, it is also possible for Lebron James to miss the Cleveland Cavaliers' opening game against Boston Celtics.

James, who first tweaked his ankle during a September 27 practice, sat out of Wednesday's practice after he re-aggravated his sprained left ankle.

While they looked a bit out of sync, disjointed and showed now real chemistry in unveiling their new starting five of James, Wade, Rose, Jaw Crowder and Love during a 108-94 loss to the Chicago Bulls last night, the preseason is not an accurate precursor of how the regular season will go.

LeBron James' preseason will consist of only one game. It is unclear whether James will be active for the Cavs season opener against his former teammate Kyrie Irving and the Boston Celtics on October 17. Smith learned this week that he was headed to the bench so Dwyane Wade could start at shooting guard, but Lue's plan as of Wednesday was for James to sit in Orlando and for Smith to start in his place.

But the importance of that game, at least for the players who know they'll be on the final roster, pales in comparison to the regular-season opener against the Boston Celtics on October 17. He walked it off during a timeout and managed to play 30 minutes, scoring 17 points with five rebounds, three assists, and eight turnovers. Lue was noncommittal when asked if James will be ready for the game, saying "I'm not sure". "I just wanted to try and test my foot, test my ankle to see how I would come out tonight".

"No. I told you it wasn't 100 percent the other day", James said.

James, entering the season as the odds-on favourite to win his fifth MVP award, did not speak to reporters following Wednesday's practice session.

"We're going to work on it", he added. We scrimmaged a lot today, and we put it in early. We have to keep working at it.

The 32-year-old James has never missed an opener in 14 seasons, and this one has some special sizzle.
