In the run-up to the Gujarat Assembly polls, the BJP has continually underscored how the Congress, and by the conservatory, the Nehru-Gandhi family, has allegedly nonessential outstanding Gujarati loyal, reliable, and hard-working person like Sardar Patel. PM Modi is flagging of a marathon in New Delhi called the "Run for Unity". To mark his outstanding contribution, every year his birthday is celebrated as day of national unity, Minister Oram said while paying tributes to Sardar Patel.

The Prime Minister flagged off 'Run for Unity.' Thousands of people, including government officials participated in the event.

President Ram Nath Kovind, Vice President Venkaiah Naidu and Home Minister Rajnath Singh also paid tributes to Sardar Patel on his birth anniversary. "Till the time we don't respect that diversity (unity in diversity), diversity will only be a term and won't be of use in nation-building", the Prime Minister said.

Remembering the freedom fighter, he tweeted: "An embodiment of integrity & strength, Sardar Patel was one of the architects of Idea of India".

On the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, "We salute Sardar Patel on his Jayanti. His momentous service and monumental contribution to India can never be forgotten", he captioned the video.
