Netflix's She's Gotta Have It Official Trailer

Way back in 1986, Spike Lee made his directorial debut with a black-and-white, independently-produced film about sex and relationships titled She's Gotta Have It.

It opens with footage of Lee's introduction as seen in the original movie's trailer (with the word show seamlessly dubbed over the word film), before kicking off into Nola's world, rendered in lush color rather than black and white.

The seriously sexy comedy stars breakout actress DeWanda Wise as Nola Darling, an uncompromising woman in her late twenties struggling to define herself and divide her time among her Friends, her Job and her Three Lovers: The Cultured Model, Greer Childs, The Protective Investment Banker, Jamie Overstreet and Da Original B-Boy Sneakerhead, Mars Blackmon. Amazon distributed Lee's most recent feature film, "Chi-Raq", in 2015.

His wife, Tonya Lewis Lee, is also executive producing, and it does seem like this new Nola is demanding you pay attention to her autonomy. As Nola concludes the trailer with empowering force, "I'm not a freak, I'm not a sex addict, and I'm damn sure nobody's property". While this doesn't seem to indicate that Lee will be fully exploring the promise of pansexuality, there is always the possibility of a season two.

The "She's Gotta Have It" cast also includes Margot Bingham, Chyna Layne, and Elise Hudson. Tony-winner Heather Headley plays the role of the therapist that was originated by S. Epatha Merkerson in the original.

The only thing that doesn't look better in 2017?
