Police seek slain Pitt student's ex-boyfriend

In a statement Monday, police asked for information that would help them find Matthew Darby, Sheykhet's ex-boyfriend from whom she had recently sought a protection order.

A police spokesperson told WPXI: 'Once our officers arrived on the scene and paramedics, we determined that it wasn't necessarily suspicious, but it was definitely a homicide.

"We do not believe at this time that this was a random act of violence", said Pittsburgh Police Chief Scott Schubert.

When she didn't answer, their dad kicked in her door and found her on the floor.

Sheykhet's roommates originally thought she was still sleeping, but Sheykhet's brother, Artem, 25, told KDKA-TV she was found unresponsive on the floor after her father forced open the door to her room.

A 20-year-old University of Pittsburgh student was found dead in her off-campus home Sunday with blunt force trauma injuries, and officials are investigating the incident as a homicide.

"I feel so terrible on the grounds that I saw a person and a woman", neighbor Nancy D'Andrea told KDKA.

She saw two sad-looking people standing in the front of the home where she was found.

Sheykhet's companions and previous colleagues said they were stunned by her passing.

Neighbors said the home was just rented out last month but don't know anything about the people who live there.

Pittsburgh police said it's too early to determine who could be a suspect.

A University of Pittsburgh student was found dead at a home in a Pittsburgh neighborhood over the weekend, police said.

A friend of Sheykhet told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette she was a "talented, careful person". "Alina was the most delightful, receptive, gifted, mindful individual".

"Heartbroken that this happened to such a attractive, sweet, and innocent girl. Praying for the Sheykhet family".

'Our campus is saddened and extends its deepest sympathies to the student's family and those who knew her.
