Seth McFarlane Comments On Harvey Weinstein Allegations

Seth MacFarlane is only now speaking out about his 2013 Oscars joke directed at Harvey Weinstein!

Now, in the light of a stunning array of sexual misconduct allegations against the powerhouse producer, The Family Guy creator is explaining the full context of his remark.

Today, he elaborated, writing, "In 2011, my friend and colleague Jessica Barth, with whom I worked on the "Ted" films, confided in me regarding her encounter with Harvey Weinstein and his attempted advances".

"I couldn't resist the opportunity to take a hard swing in his direction".

Weinstein's spokesperson, Sallie Hofmeister, issued another statement on Tuesday in response to the New Yorker article, which includes allegations made by Mira Sorvino, Rosanna Arquette, Asia Argento and others: "Any allegations of non-consensual sex are unequivocally denied by Mr. Weinstein". McGowan claimed that Affleck knew years ago because she told him about Weinstein and said Affleck told her, "Goddamnit!"

Harvey Weinstein's allegations of sexual harassment and assault were an open secret in Hollywood.

Since the, scores of women have come forward with their own accounts of inappropriate behaviour they claim he made towards them, including a growing number of high-profile actresses, such as Angelina Jolie, Gwyneth Paltrow and Heather Graham.

As previously reported, MacFarlane poked fun at the former studio executive's relationships with A-list actresses during the annual award show's nomination announcement special.

Jessica Barth, who has also been among them, also took to Twitter to defend her friend, saying he should be "applauded" for the joke as he was one of the few men fearless enough to speak out.

Weinstein responded to the report in a lengthy, rambling statement in which he pleaded for a second chance and apologized for the pain he had caused.

His wife Georgina has left her husband of ten years, citing "unforgivable actions" as her reason. "I respect and applaud my friend Jessica and those sharing their stories for their decision to to come forward, and for being champions of the truth".
