Tesla Recalls Model X SUV for Second-Row Seat Issue

Tesla Inc.is recalling 11,000 Model X SUVs worldwide because their rear seats might not lock into place.

According to the Tesla, the company had determined that a small number of cables in the second row fold-flat seats in "some" 2016 and 2017 SUVs may need readjustments. If it's not properly locked, it could move forward during a crash.

This is the second time Tesla has issued a recall for its Model X SUVs due to problems with the seats' latch.

Tesla says it has no reports of any injuries arising from the issue, and says it found the problem during internal testing.

Tesla said it can make the adjustment using its mobile service vans so that customers don't have to take the SUV into a service center. This can prevent the left seat from locking in an upright position and allow the seat to slide forward during a crash.

It's yet another blow for Tesla's quality assurance department, and again throws Tesla's manufacturing plans into doubt.

Bad news for Tesla Model X owners: you might have to spend a little time without your vehicle.

"Until then, there is no issue with continuing to drive your Model X", Tesla wrote in the email.

The company also said that it can attend to all the needed repairs with its mobile fix service and owners can send their vehicle to the nearest Tesla Service Centre if they choose to do so.

Tesla announced early this month that it missed its production target for the Model 3 sedan, the first mid-priced electric vehicle for the mass market in its lineup.
