Texas Tech Campus Police Officer Shot, Killed. Suspect in Custody

Campus police were leading an understudy welfare check prior Monday when they discovered medications and medication stuff in the presume's room, as indicated by the school's representative Chris Cook.

Police and SWAT officers have taken position at Boston Avenue and 19th Street.

He said the student shot the officer in the head and took off running. The suspect then fled on foot and remains at large. After the lockdown was lifted, the university advised that classes will resume as normal on Tuesday, but students have been warned to avoid the north side of the campus and the Texas Tech Police Department, due to it being a crime scene.

Lubbock news station KCBD reported that a Texas Tech police officer has been shot and killed at the university's police headquarters. "LPD officers were close behind & assisted", the statement read.

Earlier this evening, a Texas Tech Police Department officer was shot and killed. The campus is on lockdown. Students were told to take shelter as the incident broke the evening of October 9. Bonath restated previously given information and said more details will be available in the coming days.

Go to Texas Tech's emergency site for info on sheltering in place. "Please be safe and heed warnings from campus officials". The Texas Tech campus as well as its neighboring University Medical Center are on lockdown. He was later spotted by university police.

The shooting suspect is said to belong to a prominent family of theater owners in Seguin, Texas. "Our prayers are for this officer's loved ones".

The officer's character was being withheld pending family notice.

Texas Tech Police made a student welfare check late this afternoon.

According to the The Daily Toreador, the shooter is in custody. "And, we will continue to offer assistance to the University as it deals with this tragedy". Authorities confirmed to press there was only one shooter involved. Abbott also said he had mobilized state law enforcement resources to aid in the investigation.
