'We were under great pressure'

'We were under great pressure'

Germany coach Christian Wueck today said there was intense pressure on his team from fans back home after the shock loss to Iran in the Federation Internationale de Football Association U-17 World Cup here.

"Wuck made five changes to the side that lost 4-0 to Iran on Tuesday, and two of them were later singled out from praise by the coach - Hamburger SV left-back Josha Vagnoman and 6'2" FC Cologne centre-back Yann Bisseck.

Goals from a Jann-Fiete Arp, Nicolas Kuehn and Sahverdi Cetin were enough for the Germans to notch a tight win over the African side, who had equalised through right back Ibrahima Soumah midway through the first half.

They finished the group proceedings with three wins in as many matches, scoring 10 goals and conceding just one. We try to learn lessons from them", Chamanian said as he looks ahead to the encounter against Costa Rica."Costa Rica is the toughest team in our group. We must not forget the work that has gone in so that we get nine points.

Margao: Iran predictably finished on top of Group C of the Under-17 World Cup with another resounding win, this time 3-0 over Costa Rica, whose gruelling and error-prone campaign came to an end at the Nehru Stadium here on Friday.

"We have a team who is very strong on the offence".

"It's a do or die battle for us now and our boys know it", stated Costa Rica coach Breansse Camacho. Guinea coach Souleymane Camara would later call him the best player on the pitch, both "tactically and physically". Realistically it was the point where the match seemed over for Guinea, even though they fought hard for the remainder of the game, even playing with effectively four strikers at one stage, when midfielder Elhadj Bah was replaced by Djibril Sylla.

With the win, Germany have set up a Round of 16 clash against Colombia in New Delhi on Monday.

"It is their best performance so far and if they continue to perform in the same manner we have a great chance to reach the final", said Chamanian. The German coach hailed the pitch at Kochi and said the "pitch could be compared to European standards, and the players were able to play better here". "We have not capitalized on the chances that we got throughout the tournament, we had got almost 30 chances in but we failed to convert most of it".

"We have had at least 30 chances across the three games, against Iran, Costa Rica and tonight against Germany. First we have to sleep and recuperate over the next two days". But I think my players are very strong and very fast.
