Wenger blasts Merson after recent comments

He thinks Arsenal would have won more trophies under Wenger if he was as astute as Redknapp is.

"People say [Redknapp] is a wheeler-dealer and it's so disrespectful", Merson said on panel show A League Of Their Own.

"We [Portsmouth] were 33/1 rank outsiders to win the league that year", Merson told host James Corden. We were 2-0 down at half-time and it could've been 10-0.

PAUL MERSON has taken aim at Arsene Wenger yet again - this time claiming Arsenal would win the Premier League if the Frenchman had the "tactical nous" of Harry Redknapp.

'Tactically, he's one of the best I've worked with.

"That's when I knew he was a great manager".

Arsenal fans in particular have been quick to point out that while Wenger has won his third FA Cup in four years, Redknapp has recently been sacked by Championship side Birmingham City after six straight defeats.

Wenger and Merson's war of words stems from comments the latter made about the Gunners in 2014 when he described them as playing like an under-12 team after throwing away a three-goal lead against Anderlecht.

He left Highbury for Middlesbrough in 1997 and also had spells with Aston Villa, Portsmouth and Walsall, going on to manage the Saddlers between 2004 and 2006 before taking up a role as a media pundit for Sky Sports.

Asked about the comments this morning, Wenger snapped: "These debates that I hear are a joke, a farce".
