Airbus wins biggest jet order from Indigo Partners

Golden Falcon Aviation, the exclusive aircraft provider of Kuwait-based Wataniya Airways, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for 25 Airbus A320neo Family aircraft at the Dubai Airshow 2017.

Indigo Partners is a private equity fund led by Bill Franke, the 430 A320's would go to airlines in Indigo's investment portfolio: Frontier Airlines, Mexico's Volaris, European carrier Wizz Air Holdings Plc and JetSmart, which began operating in Chile this year.

It would be the biggest ever order for Airbus and would more than double the value of the company's sales for the year. "We are convinced that the Airbus A320neo and A321neo will be game-changer aircraft for Wizz Air, as we continue to grow at an industry-leading rate and expand our market reach across and beyond Europe", said József Váradi, Wizz Air's chief executive officer.

In addition, a separate deal for 175 jets from flyDubai, possibly to be split between Airbus and Boeing is also on the cards.

The order will be worth USD$2.7 billion at list prices when firmed up.

Separately, the immediate prospect of a much-discussed deal to keep the A380 in production beyond the end of the decade remained in suspense with Emirates seeking guarantees over the longevity of the programme, plagued by slow orders from other carriers.
