American Heart Association seeks little hat donations

American Heart Association seeks little hat donations

The American Heart Association and The Children's Heart Foundation co-fund the Congenital Heart Defect Research Awards.

The red hats will be given to thousands of babies to encourage parents to live healthy lives for themselves and their children. All babies born at participating hospitals during the month of February will receive a hat.

The American Heart Association is calling on the public to knit and crochet red hats for babies.

The American Heart Association is seeking volunteers who can knit and crochet special hats for newborns in hospitals across the country. Go to http://www.heart.org/littlehatsbighearts to find knitting patterns, participating AHA offices and more. The program has now expanded to more than 40 states. For any questions about Little Hats, Big Hearts in CT, please contact Lisa Neff, Lisa.Neff@heart.org or 203-295-2954. Donations of yarn are also accepted.

- Baby-sized or preemie-sized red hats that are knitted or crocheted from cotton or acrylic medium- to heavyweight yarn.

The organisers hope to "raise awareness, provide resources and inspire moms to take their family's heart health to heart while also raising awareness about Congenital Heart Defects".

Little Hats, Big hearts began in Chicago in 2014.
