Cavaliers earn 11-seed in 39th straight NCAA Tournament appearance

The NCAA announced on its men's soccer tournament selection show Monday afternoon that the Spartans will be seeded No. 7 with a first round bye, with a little pep talk from Tom Izzo. It's the first Omaha program, other than hockey, to advance to the NCAA Tournament. Virginia will host Fordham or St. Francis (N.Y.) in the second round at 5 p.m. Sunday.

UIC (11-5-3) secured the automatic NCAA bid from the Horizon League for the second straight season after defeating top-seeded Green Bay 2-0 on November 11 in the conference tournament final.

Tickets for Thursday's match will be available at the entrance to Thompson Field.

Columbia (11-2-3) is making its first NCAA appearance since 1993. Fans can order tickets for the tournament online at VirginiaSports.com and by phone through the Virginia Athletics Ticket Office at 800-542-UVA1 (8821) or 434-924-UVA1 (8821) beginning at 9 a.m. on Tuesday (Nov. 14).

ODU (12-5-2) defeated Charlotte 1-0 in the C-USA final Sunday on its home field. Indiana, Maryland, Michigan, Michigan State and Wisconsin all secured bids to the national tournament, which begins Thursday.

The Cavaliers will make their 39th appearance overall in the NCAA Tournament in which own a 62-31-5 record.

The Mavericks will play FIU on Thursday with No. 6 Duke awaiting the victor on Sunday. The Seahawks reached the NCAAs in 2009 and 2014. The national quarterfinals will follow on December 1-2 at campus venues.
