Cech: Time for Spurs to win trophy

'No I don't think so, ' Cech said when asked by Sky Sports whether there had been a changing of the guard in north London over the last few seasons.

Tottenham, meanwhile, are gearing up for their crunch north London derby showdown against Arsenal at The Emirates on Saturday afternoon.

"We are not competing against Tottenham Hotspur".

'We were under pressure the last couple of years, people talking about winning trophies, obviously we are disappointed not to have won the title but we won FA Cups.

There have been some mitigating circumstances, with the Chilean arriving back late from global duty during the summer, and the German hampered by injury, but here we are heading for mid-November and between them they have just two goals and four assists.

But Cech insists the title - and not just leapfrogging Tottenham - is still the Gunners' target.

The first North London derby of the season kicks off on Saturday when Spurs travel to the Emirates in the first Premier League game after the worldwide break ends.

"For me that made the biggest difference because they have young, talented players as well as experienced players, their team is very well balanced".

On Pochettino, he added: "He has given stability not only to me but to the whole club".

The Czech, 35, also claims Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez are as focused as ever - despite their unsettled futures after so far declining to sign new contracts.

Tottenham has not won a trophy since 2008 (the League Cup) and although they were the last team standing between the last two league champions and their eventual glory, it's still not a trophy. Aided by the non-stop scoring of Harry Kane - a player who has scored in every league match he's played against Arsenal - and the fact Mauricio Pochettino has fashioned a well-organised, hard to break down team, it's now over three years since an Arsene Wenger side has tasted league victory in the derby.
