Chuck Person indicted as part of college basketball corruption probe

Bruce Pearl is refusing to cooperate with Auburn's internal investigation into the men's basketball program, and University officials have warned he could be terminated if he doesn't begin to, according to a report from ESPN on Wednesday. I am no more concerned than anybody else. "You guys know from the very, very beginning I'm not allowed to comment on the process, but we are definitely working through this".

Auburn opens the regular season Friday against Norfolk State.

Auburn has fired associate head basketball coach Chuck Person, who has been indicted on federal bribery, conspiracy and fraud charges.

University spokesman Brian Keeter said the school can't comment because of an ongoing investigation.

"Chuck Person did not commit a crime and we're confident he will be vindicated at trial after a jury hears all the evidence", his lawyer, Theresa Trzaskoma, said in a statement.

The indictment accuses Person of accepting at least $91,500 in bribes in return for influencing Auburn players to work with business managers and retain the services of Michel-who is now a suit maker-when they went pro. Person told Blazer he gave $18,500 of that to the families of two Auburn players, according to a federal complaint.

Last Thursday, Auburn announced that players Danjel Purifoy and Austin Wiley would be held out from playing, because the university could not verify their eligibility.

Pearl has mostly declined comment to local reporters because of the ongoing nature of the investigation. On Tuesday, Person was sacked after being indicted on six charges by a grand jury in federal court in NY.

Person joined Auburn's staff when Pearl did in 2014.
