Corvette ZR1 Unveiled With 755 HP, 210+ MPH Top Speed

Romance and drama aside, the 2019 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 is a thing to behold. Chevrolet didn't go into specifics but confirmed the model has a top speed in excess of 210 miles per hour (337 km/h).

Meet the fastest and most powerful Corvette ever built, coming to "retake its supercar crown" according to Chevrolet.

As the fourth ZR1 in Corvette history, the 2019 version is equipped with a direct- and port-injected, supercharged, 6.2-liter V8 engine, appropriately named the LT5.

Its supercharger has 52 per cent more displacement than that of the Z06's LT4 engine that came before it. In fact, the car's new carbon fiber hood is open in the middle in order to clear the hardware. The ZR1 weighs 10 pounds more than the Z06, and 171 pounds more than the previous ZR1. The vehicle will be available with a seven-speed manual or an eight-speed automatic.

The auto will also be available with a Sebring Orange Design Package. This upgrade installed racing-grade suspension, braking, and cooling components, along with a heavy-duty 4-speed manual transmission. But we'll get there. Y'know, stuff like air conditioning and power windows. The sticker price was nearly $60,000, a fortune then.and now. GM reckons a top speed of "over 338km/h" is possible in this configuration. Chevy will also offer heated and vented Napa leather seats, as well as a carbon fiber-trimmed steering wheel, competition sport seats, Performance Data Recorder, Bose premium audio system and more. The hallowed three-letter moniker returns packing more aero, greater performance and, of course, heaps of extra power to go around.

For example, the new ZR1 has a redesigned front end with huge air intakes to feed four new radiators, which brings the total heat exchanger count to 13, according to Chevrolet.

Both of the ZR1's wings are tied into the chassis, like the Corvette Racing C7.R racecar, for strength and stability.

The ZR1 will offer two aero packages: a standard rear Low Wing, which delivers the highest top speed and helps generate up to 70 percent more downforce than the Z06's base aero package, and an available two-way-adjustable High Wing that offers maximum downforce on the track for the quickest lap times - about 60 percent more downforce than the Z06 with the available Z07 Performance Package.

The ZTK Performance Package will include a High Wing that is said to increase downforce by an additional 950 pounds (431 kilograms). You also get special chassis tuning, Magnetic Ride Control and Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 rubber. Tires will be sized P285/30ZR19 up front and P335/25ZR20 in back.

A Sebring Orange Design Package is available, including bright "arrest-me-now" exterior paint combined with matching interior stitching and seat belts, as well as bronze aluminum interior trim.

The cockpit will boast leather and faux-suede seat upholstery. The fastest and most powerful Corvette ever made, the new ZR1 looks like an absolute beast.

The Corvette ZR1 will go on sale next year but Chevrolet isn't revealing the all important number on the price just yet. Pricing has not yet been announced but expect a six-digit figure. "Its unprecedented performance puts all other global supercars on notice that the ZR1 is back".
