F1: Alonso sceptical of Q3 chances in Brazil after hard Friday

Massa, who announced last week he will retire from Formula One at the end of the season, turned in a stellar drive at his farewell, holding off a charging Fernando Alonso in the closing stages to finish seventh.

"I have now enjoyed four great years with the team, but my career in Formula 1 will finally come to an end this season". "I will never forget today", the Brazilian said after being invited to the podium in a crowded Interlagos track in Sao Paulo.

Raikkonen had to fend off the recovering Lewis Hamilton to earn his spot on the rostrum alongside Ferrari teammate and race-winner Sebastian Vettel, though he said he felt comfortable despite coming under late pressure from the newly-crowned world champion.

His last race in F1 will be in two weeks in Abu Dhabi.

"Thank you for everything that we passed together, for all the support". I drove a ideal race from beginning to end, managed the tyres, managed everything around the vehicle. "Today I finished the race like I wanted, that's why I did another year!"

During that spell, one of the most memorable moments of the season occurred, as the voice of Massa's young son Felipinho delivered a tear-jerking message to his father: "Daddy, I'm so proud of you". "I'm very close with all the guys that got pulled aside and you can't imagine what they were feeling or going through at the time".

"I knew that after past year I had so much love and emotion from the people, but I didn't finish the race as I wanted".

"Renault is the best engine company in the past 15 or 20 years if you see all the world championships so l don't think we should be too anxious", he said.

"I managed to pass him on the re-start, but after that it was so hard". Today I think I finished with a result like a victory, doing more than maybe what the auto was able to do. I knew that keeping him behind for 71 laps would be very hard, but I managed to do it.
