Gas Prices to Drop with Temps

Gas prices are up one cent in Rhode Island and up six cents in MA, according to AAA Northeast. That average price is 38.3 cents per gallon, or about 17 percent, higher than the same time past year, the website announced in a press release.

Fuel prices jumped by more than 2 cents in the last week in the Houston area up to an average of $2.22 for a gallon of regular unleaded, while the national average rose almost 2 cents up to $2.55, according to GasBuddy, which tracks fuel pricing.

Local prices are now 41 cents above what they were at this time a year ago.

GasBuddy is a price-tracking website that monitors prices at 147 gas stations across the county, as well as prices across the country.

AAA found that in Rhode Island, self-serve, regular gasoline is selling for as low as $2.39 per gallon and as high as $2.70.

AAA Michigan surveys daily fuel prices at 2,800 gas stations across the state.

"Our usual autumn pump price plunge was interrupted by rising oil prices,"Jenkins said". However, motorists should expect gas prices to linger at their current levels this week.

In most states, the cost of filling up increased over the past week, but as with most things, the pain was not spread equitably. AAA said rising oil costs contributed to the high cost of gas. The highest was about $2.78 per gallon in the Marquette area.

"Analysts warn that oil prices could be somewhat volatile this week, as the consolidation of power in Saudi Arabia leaves speculators questioning the impacts on global oil supply".

Nationally, the average price for a gallon of gas remains slightly higher than Florida. Pensacola saw the lowest average price at $2.48 per gallon.

Typically, gasoline prices are lower in the winter compared to summer.
