Georgia Tech player proposes to girlfriend after Jackets upset Hokies

It seemed as if the Hokies were going to be able to overcome early mistakes to escape with a win, but the defense couldn't stop the Yellow Jackets from creating one more big play. The junior quarterback finished 2 of 8 passing out of the triple-option.

Georgia Tech answered with a touchdown, an 80-play drive sparked by Nate Cottrell's career-long 69-yard run. Marshall capped the drive off six plays later with a touchdown and the lead was 14-3.

It's what Georgia Tech does game in and game out.

A couple of questionable decisions by Fuente cost the Hokies crucial points in the first half.

It took 34 games on The Flats, but Savannah native Brad Stewart finally pulled in a touchdown catch for Georgia Tech. Marshall rushed 22 times for 64 yards and two touchdowns. "We felt like we had an opportunity with as good of a look as we were going to get to go win the game". Coach Paul Johnson threw in the right wrinkles, made the right calls and his players did their parts while facing Bud Foster's Virginia Tech defense. The Hokies drove to the 32 but failed on fourth-and-1 when Ajani Kerr knocked away Josh Jackson's pass into the end zone that was intended for Cam Phillips.

The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets' celebration after their upset win over No. 17 Virginia Tech at Bobby Dodd Stadium got even more exciting after the game ended when Tre' Jackson got down on one knee and asked his girlfriend to marry him.

Georgia Tech appeared to be driving for a clinching touchdown late in the third quarter.

Quarterback TaQuon Marshall said he told Stewart this summer that his touchdown-free streak would come to an end this year.

He came back to it with the Yellow Jackets trailing 22-21 midway through the fourth quarter. Defensive end KeShun Freeman, in the game as a blocking back, took the direct snap and ran 3 yards for a first down. He dialed up a long pass down the seam to wide receiver Ricky Jeune.

The opportunities came in the run game too.
