Hat-trick hero Eriksen books Denmark's World Cup spot

The Danes booked their ticket to Russian Federation with a brilliant 5-1 win in Dublin, Eriksen's treble sandwiched by a Cyrus Christie own goal and Nicklas Bendtner penalty after Shane Duffy had put the hosts into an early lead.

― Reuters picDUBLIN, Nov 15 ― Denmark's hat-trick hero Christian Eriksen said his performance in their 5-1 demolition of Ireland yesterday would be life-changing after they booked a ticket to next year's World Cup.

Bad would turn to really mad minutes later, when Christian Eriksen would score his first with a stunning shot, there was nothing Darren Randolph could do.

"I don't agree with our luck running out, it was a commendable effort by the team. After scoring one goal it was a big knock for Ireland and it gave us the confidence to keep going".

Not surprisingly, McClean, one of Ireland's better performers on the night, was distraught at the end of the game. We were more effective than in Parken, the effectiveness is very important in football.

After taking an early lead which sent spirits soaring inside a packed Aviva Stadium, Ireland were put down brutally by Denmark, for whom Eriksen was lethal after an untypical ineffectual display in the first leg.

"We were chasing the game and needed goals to get back into the game but as we were trying to press, Denmark took advantage".

"It's hard to rank, but we saw (in Tottenham's Champions League victory) against Real Madrid he is probably one of the best players in his position in Europe at the moment".

Asked how far his free-flowing team could go at next year's tournament, Hareide said it would depend on the draw but added that the side wanted to improve and play good football. "That was the goal and aim before I started as the coach for Denmark and I am very pleased". "We've been fighting for so long together after the two play-off games, which were very hard, but we got the result and we can be very pleased and I'm looking very much forward to World Cup".
