Kashmir: Two militants killed in encounter

In occupied Kashmir, Indian troops in their fresh act of state terrorism today, evening, martyred two Kashmiri youth in Handwara area of Kupwara district.

A police official said the two militants were "killed in a brief shootout" at Rajwar, Handwara.

The identity and group affiliation of the slain terrorists is being ascertained, a police official said.

Forces on Monday morning launched a cordon-and-search-operation in Mir Mohalla of Hajin area in northern Kashmir's Bandipora district. The policemen retaliated, killing two terrorists, he added.


He said the search operation continued for over three hours.

Sources said that almost 70 security personnel have lost their lives in the line of duty this year, while an equal number of ultras have infiltrated into Kashmir in the past 10 months.

Almost 170 militants, including top commanders Sabzar Bhat, Junaid Matoo, Ayoub Lelhari, Bashir Lashkari, Abu Dujana, Mehmood Gaznavi, Umer Khalid and Qayoom Najar, have been killed by the security forces this year, which is the highest number in the last decade.
