Kyrie Irving Frustrated with Clear Mask Worn in Win vs. Nets

Irving experienced some frustrating moments with the item forced upon him after fracturing his face in a collision with teammate Aron Bayes 1:50 into Friday's win over Charlotte.

With the protective mask on, Irving played 29 minutes and had five assists.

"The way that they converted on us in transition after our mistakes tonight, you can't have that against Golden State". But he described it like having foggy blinders, restricting his peripheral vision. Brooklyn was only the fourth team, and only the second during this 13-game winning streak, to break 100 against the C's this season. In fact, the Celtics allowing just 94 points per game.

Kyrie Irving shakes the hands of two members of the United States Armed Forces after giving them his game-worn sneakers and jersey.

What didn't look obvious at the time to anyone - including Adam Himmelsbach, Celtics beat writer for The Boston Globe, was that the Celtics were about to come back and beat the Sixers, and in doing so kick off what has become a 13-game winning streak.

In other National Basketball Association games Tuesday, DeMar DeRozan scored 27 points and the Toronto Raptors built a big lead in the first half and held on for a 129-113 victory over the Houston Rockets in Houston.

Kerr doesn't think Boston's astounding defensive numbers are a fluke, and that the Warriors will get a stern test from a deep, versatile roster much like his own under highly regarded young coach Brad Stevens. "He'll find that and obviously he made huge plays late in the game again". Al Horford also continued his efficient run, with 17 points on 8-for-10 shooting.

An inability to contain Irving down the stretch sent the Nets to a seventh loss in nine games since beating Cleveland on October 25.

"I thought guys competed", Nets Coach Kenny Atkinson said.

Joe Harris scored 19 points and Rondae Hollis-Jefferson had 16 points and nine rebounds for the Nets, who are without leading scorer D'Angelo Russell because of a bruised left knee. "It just goes to show when you play against good teams, great teams, in fact, you can't just have little strings here and there".

"But the biggest one is the most obvious one: that Gordon Hayward, one of the 25 best players in the world, got hurt in the first game, then they lost the second one and were pretty close to losing to the Sixers in the third one".

As irksome as the clear plastic mask might be, Irving said it was better from a team perspective than the black one he wore in 2012 with the Cleveland Cavaliers to protect a broken jaw.
