Narendra Modi Meets PMs of Australia, Vietnam

American President Donald Trump could not help praise the spectacle at the gala celebration hosted by his counterpart, Rodrigo Duterte, on Sunday night. Trump is on a five-country trip through Asia traveling to Japan, South Korea, China, Vietnam and the Philippines. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson would attend the plenary session in his place, a senior White House official said.

The Ministry of External Affairs on Monday said President Rodrigo Duterte of the Philippines has accepted Prime Minister Narendra Modi's invitation to visit India for the 2018 ASEAN-India commemorative summit, along with other leaders of the ASEAN.

The two sides sealed four agreements and agreed to cooperate on counter-terror.

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern will tell the Philippine president there have been too many killings in his war against drugs.

President Donald Trump has arrived in the Philippines to attend a pair of global summits and close his five-country tour of Asia.

Duterte has been a controversial figure since taking office as president a year ago, and launching a war on drugs that has killed at least 3,900 people in the Philippines. Trump, by contrast, said on Monday he had a "great relationship" with Duterte. But Trump's rapport with Duterte comes during a time when Duterte is being criticized around the world for approving extrajudicial killings in his war on drugs.

Some countries in the 10-member Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), particularly Muslim-majority Malaysia, have voiced strong concern over the issue recently.
