Nets G Russell to miss time with injury

Brooklyn Nets point guard D'Angelo Russell hurt his left knee on Saturday night and could be out "several games" going forward, per Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.

D'Angelo Russell's injury isn't as serious as initially feared. He will undergo further evaluation soon, league sources said.

Russell was their best player against the Jazz with 26 points, six rebounds, three assists and a plus-9 rating, and if he is lost for any significant amount of time, it would be crippling for the young Nets (5-8). In the season opener, Jeremy Lin tore the patella tendon in his right knee and underwent season-ending surgery.

After starting November with a grueling five-game Western Conference road trip, the Nets play their next three games at home against the Boston Celtics, the Jazz, and the Golden State Warriors.

Russell joined Brooklyn, along with Timofey Mozgov, in a trade with the Los Angeles Lakers in June for Brook Lopez and a first-round draft pick.

Russell missed Brooklyn's win over Cleveland on October 25 with a right knee sprain and Spencer Dinwiddie scored 22 points in his place.
