President Buhari reassures South East of better deal in 2018

President Muhammadu Buhari has arrived the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu for a two-day working visit to the South-East.

He also commissioned the 14.5km Federal Road constructed by the Ebonyi State Government and unveiled the Statue of Dr. Akanu Ibiam as well as laid the foundation stone for Ebonyi City Mall and foundation stone for President Muhammadu Buhari Flyover Bridge/Road Tunnel.

The president made the pledge, yesterday, in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, during a reception held in his honour by the state government at the Government House.

The presidency had in an earlier statement assured that his government does not discriminate against any part of Nigeria, least of all the south-east.

"When I met with leaders from the South East last month in Abuja, they raised several issues of concern, including the state of the roads and infrastructure in the region".

The president is expected to head to Ebonyi from the airport. I want to assure you that we will deliver on our promise.

Speaking, the state Governor, David Umahi thanked the president for the visit, noting that it confounded those who doubted the possibility of his visiting the state.

The welcome also came with 2 Chieftaincy titles: Enyioma 1 of Ebonyi, which I am told means Trustworthy friend of Ebonyi; & Ochioha Ndigbo, which means Leader of Igbo people. I thank you for this honour and kind gesture.

"Such an act of accommodation is what translates a mere leader to a great father of the nation", Egwu said.
