The shooter was shot and killed by police.

Investigators say the shooting began at one location, with multiple shots fire, then moved to the elementary school.

The shooting started shortly after 8 a.m., the Redding Record Searchlight reports, and at least two children suffered gunshot wounds and were hospitalized. "Multiple students" have been airlifted from the scene according to Assistant Sheriff Phil Johnston, including a 6-year-old.

Students at Rancho Tehama Elementary are being evacuated to the Rancho Tehama Recreation Hall.

According to KRCR TV, a witness identified only as Tiffany, who operates the nearby Coffee Addiction Coffee Shop, said she heard about 90-100 shots fired.

A shooter was killed by law enforcement at the school, though witness reports given to local media outlets suggest there were multiple shooters.

Police are investigating at least five crime scenes.
