SNL's Roy Moore sketch is one big joke about Alabama being backward

Moore has been accused of sexual misconduct with an underage female 38 years ago, and denied the allegations Friday as "politically motivated", although not denying he has dated teenagers.

"This article is a prime example of fake news, an attempt to divert attention from the true issues which affect our country, like health care, military readiness, tax reform, immigration, and national debt", Moore said at an event Saturday in Alabama.

"I have to say, I think the accusations have more credibility than the denial", Toomey said.

Moore says he refuses to repeat their lies, and he's counting on the help of "God-fearing conservatives like you to stand with me at this critical moment".

The state Republican Party could remove him as its nominee but it's too late for the party to replace him with another candidate or remove his name from the ballot. Moore is opposed by Democrat Doug Jones.

In Alabama, many Republican leaders have couched any concern about the allegations with "if it's true".

"Not generally, no. If did, you know, I'm not going to dispute anything, but I don't remember anything like that."
Gardner chairs the Republican senatorial campaign committee.

Sens. Pat Toomey of Pennsylvania and Jeff Flake of Arizona echoed those comments, and No. 2 Senate Republican John Cornyn of Texas calls the report "deeply troubling". None of the other women said that Moore forced them into any sort of relationship or sexual contact.
