Tipu Jayanti: Stones hurled at bus in Madikeri

Meanwhile, Renuka Sukumar, DCP, said "Detained more than 150 BJP workers in Hubli protesting against Tipu Jayanti celebration".

Police have launched "Good morning" beat system to ensure security at religious and other sensitive places ahead of Tipu Jayanti celebrations. Tipu Sultan was recently described as a "brutal killer, wretched fanatic and mass rapist" by Union Minister Anantkumar Hegde of the BJP, who asked for his name to be dropped from state government invites to this year's Tipu Sultan event.

Known as the "Tiger of Mysore", Tipu Sultan ruled the Mysore kingdom from 1782-1799 succeeding his father Hyder Ali.

#The development comes after the Karnataka High Court struck down a petition to restrict Tipu Jayanti celebrations this year.

Earlier in the day while protesting against the celebration, BJP leader Shahnawaz Hussain said that the Congress-led government is anxious about Tipu Sultan instead of the state's public.

Referring to Chief Minister Siddharamaiah's remark that those who do not know history will oppose Tipu Jayanti, Ramdas said that the Chief Minister will be despatched a set of history books which have explained Tipu's cruelty based on real facts, on Nov.10.

Tipu Jayanti is being observed since 2015 following a government decision. "The government itself is celebrating the event in various parts of the city for which we have made elaborate arrangement", Bengaluru Police Commissioner T Suneel Kumar said while addressing the media.

He said there will be celebrations only at the places identified by the government, adding that the police would deal firmly with those who plan to create trouble.

In the wake of Tipu Jayanti, section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) that prohibits assembly of more than four people was imposed in Karnataka's Kodagu on Friday, official said.
