The acclaimed drama, based around the lives of London drug dealers and street gangs, began in 2011 and ran for two series on Channel 4.

Drake revealed he plans to take six to a year to work on acting in "great films", the rapper told The Hollywood Reporter.

One of the main stars Ashley Walters tweeted Drake thanking him for for posting about the drama.

It has been confirmed that Top Boy will be revived by Netflix, with Drake helming the new series.

Top Boy follows the rise of Dushane (Walters) and his friend Sully (played by Kane "Kano" Robinson) in the grimy underground drugs business. Drake and Nur are executive producing along with original executive producers Charles Steel and Alasdair Flind (for Cowboy Films), Ronan Bennett (for Easter Partisan) and Yann Demange.

Netflix had already secured global streaming rights to the series, but this is the second time it has continued development of a major Channel 4 programme by turning it into an Original production. "And I could not be prouder to be doing the show with Netflix". "We couldn't be more excited for Netflix members around the world and a new generation of fans to discover the authentic, raw and real world of Top Boy", Cindy Holland, Vice President, Original Content for Netflix, said.

Now a third season will premiere as an Netflix original series, thanks to Drake and National Basketball Association star LeBron James, who's producing it via his Spring Hill Entertainment production company. "Awaiting them both is Jamie, the young, hungry and ruthless gang leader whose ambitions leave no place for Dushane and Sully", said the entertainment website.
