Trailer: Hugh Jackman's Barnum biopic

Trailer: Hugh Jackman's Barnum biopic

The second trailer for Michael Gracey's directorial debut The Greatest Showman is here, and it offers no shortage of visual and musical delights. But we're introduced to another obstacle that Barnum and his circus faces: the stern and violent disapproval of the buttoned up London society, which protests Barnum's family of freaks. Oh yeah. But in addition to having a pretty catchy song, it also looks to have the emotional subtlety of a sledgehammer, and while that doesn't always work in film, in the context of a musical, it's something I personally tend to give more leeway. It's a little odd that the song sounds like an Imagine Dragons track, but maybe it's a new trend to play anachronistic, poppy songs in period pieces (shout out to the Murder on the Orient Express trailer, which makes ample use of an actual Imagine Dragons song).

We know Hugh Jackman can act, and he can sing, winning two Tony Awards, and more so than ever... the performer can put on a show. Yes, that P.T. Barnum as in Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus.

Tony victor and Oscar nominee Hugh Jackman stars as pioneering American showman P.T. Barnum, and this original musical explores Barnum's founding of the legendary Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus.

Fox is planning a holiday release for the musical event, launching The Greatest Showman into theaters on December 20, 2017. The studio also recently unveiled two colorful new posters from the film featuring Hugh Jackman (Eddie the Eagle, the X-Men film franchise) as P.T Barnum, Zac Efron (Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates, the High School Musical films) as Phillip Carlyle, and Zendaya (Spider-Man: Homecoming, K.C. Undercover) as Anne Wheeler.
