What happened to Donald Trump's Twitter account?

Activists have been lobbying Twitter for months to suspend the account, arguing that his tweets violate Twitter's terms of service. The account was down for 11 minutes, and has since been restored.

It's now unclear why the account was unavailable but we reckon someone at Twitter will be asked a few questions.

Business Insider has reached out to Twitter for comment.

Trump's last tweet from his personal page was at 3:35 p.m., announcing his nomination of Jerome Powell as the next chairman of the Federal Reserve.

It's unclear why Trump's account, along with its 41.7 million followers, disappeared Thursday night. Eastern were met by a "Sorry, that page doesn't exist!" message - the hallmark of a page that's either been deleted or suspended from the platform. "This has always been internal policy and we'll soon update our public-facing rules to reflect this".
