195 job offers on first day of placement season at IIT-M

"The student who has been offered the maximum package so far will join Microsoft's Redmond, Washington headquarters", a placement division official at IIT Delhi told this newspaper.

"The overall selections on the first day have been great and we are hoping that the numbers will be better in the next few days" said a member of the placement committee. "The Day-1 Slot-1 (Till 4 pm) of Campus Placement Season 2017-18 saw the participation of companies across all the sectors".

In addition to day one placements, as many as 114 pre-placement offers (PPOs) have also been received by students of IIT Madras this year, as against 73 last year.

Falguni Banerjee, public relations officer at IIT Bombay said that worldwide offers came from Microsoft, Goldman Sachs, P & G, Schlumberger, GE, Texas Instruments and Uber while a number of big recruiters from India had also lined up to hire students at fat pay packages. This year, around 1,700 students have registered for the campus placements and the institute expects more than 225 companies to participate. "Scene is much better compared to past year", she said.


The first day of the placement season at IIT-Bombay did impress the students and faculty on Friday. As per reports, it is said that Microsoft offered United States dollars 2,14,600 to a student, while Uber was ready with USD 1,55,000.

A member of placement cell at IIT Kanpur claimed that firms are proposing Rs 20-25 Lakh each year for new IT jobs such as machine learning and AI, up from Rs 15-20 Lakh that a usual recruiter might provide for any IT job till 2016. These companies have made 93 offers to the students.

Goldman Sachs, Qualcomm, IBM, Microsoft, BCG, Cairn, McKinsey Knowledge Centre & Tata Steel gave the highest number of domestic offers during Day 1 of IIT Bombay placements while the maximum global offers were made by NEC Japan, Microsoft, Optiver, Rubrik & Uber.

For past few years, domestic firms have been offering pay packages between ₹20 and ₹35 lakh.
