Amazon Prime Video now available for Apple TV

Amazon Prime Video now available for Apple TV

The Apple TV series has pretty-much always featured Netflix, on its many iterations, but never before has it offered access to the Amazon Prime Video service. As we didn't have access to an Apple TV at the time of writing, we cannot confirm whether it has rolled out officially. Apple TV users can head to the tvOS Play Store to download Prime Video. "And if you can't, then we don't want to sell it to our customers because they're going to be buying it thinking they can watch Prime Video and then they're going to be disappointed". It works on Apple TV models from the 3rd generation and up. Alternatively, you can opt to subscribe just to Amazon Prime Video for £5.99 a month. It's also important to note that the app comes with support for Apple TV's Universal Search feature, so the TV shows and movies that users searched for will show up on the Apple TV interface.

Either way, this means that we'll likely see the Amazon Prime Video app launch for Apple TV sometime this week, with tomorrow being the earliest.

The new Prime Video app is now available to download for the Apple TV, you can find out more details about the app over at iTunes at the link below.

So far, the app has appeared in Apple TV search in the U.S. and Canada, but not the United Kingdom, according to my Engadget colleagues there. The app release should open the door for Amazon to start selling the Apple TV device, according to the report.
