Arsene Wenger desperate for win in race for Champions League places

And Wenger admits that he will sit down for talks with Wilshere at the end of December over his future after assessing his performances over the course of the month.

"There's always concern [about the table] as we are here to win games".

But Wenger said: "I will talk to him".

The 25-year-old was named man of the match for his efforts during Arsenal's goalless stalemate with the Hammers to leave Wenger's men in seventh place in the Premier League table.

The former Bolton Wanderers loanee scored one goal in six Europa League group-stage appearances to help the Gunners reach the knockout phase of the competition for the first time.

Arsenal dropped points for a third Premier League game in a row as they were held to a 0-0 draw at West Ham in a wasteful showing on Wednesday. I've only read what the boss has said in the media.

"For a moment I thought it was in".

"He came on as a sub against Southampton and made a real difference in that game and against West Ham".

West Ham then nearly stole all three points right at the end, but Hernandez fired an effort onto the crossbar from 12 yards.

"Now we need to take it to the next level but if we don't concede with the forwards and attacking players that we have got we should have chances of scoring and winning games".

Ray Wilkins has suggested that West Ham should sign Jack Wilshere during the January transfer window. Wenger noted that he had "defended well".

Arsenal finished in fifth place in the Premier League last term to miss out on a Champions League spot. You've got to be able to go forward and defend to win the ball back, so that makes it a little bit different but I enjoyed playing in midfield and, hopefully, I'll get some more opportunities.

"I think it [the recent run of form] will give us good confidence because of the results", he was quoted as saying by Sky Sports News. "I was happy to play the 90 minutes".
