'Bohemian Rhapsody' Director Responds to Being Fired From Queen Film

Singer stated that his absence was due to a gravely ill parent and that the studio refused to let him take care of their (or his own) health.

Singer was sacked from the project December 4 after what the studio said were unexplained absences from the set, although the director countered the studio refused to give him time off to care for an ill parent. "This was not my decision and it was beyond my control".

"I wanted nothing more than to be able to finish this project and help honour the legacy of Queen, but Fox would not permit me to do so because I needed to temporarily put my health, and the health of my loved ones, first".

Even before this, however, Fox was reportedly considering to replace him anyway because of his continuous unprofessional behavior during the production that caused a rift between him and lead star Rami Malek, who plays the role of Freddie Mercury, the frontman of the iconic band Queen.

Singer also acknowledged his conflict with Malek in his statement saying, "While, at times, we did have creative differences on set, Rami and I successfully put those differences behind us and continued to work on the film together until just prior to Thanksgiving".

Fox had no comment on the statement.

The Hollywood Reporter reported Monday that Singer failed to show up to the London set on a number of occasions. A new director has not been named. New Regency and GK Films are the production companies. But he dropped out soon after, with reports claiming he "did not see eye to eye" with producer Graham King. Sources said Malek had complained about what he perceived as Singer's lack of professionalism. When it has earlier halted production December 1, the studio cited the absence the "unexpected unavailability" of the filmmaker.

Singer was sacked from the film on Monday, with reports noting that his termination came about due to his "unreliability" and "unprofessionalism".

The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that the studio will name a new director for the film in "the next few days". The director has had a history of disappearing from film sets, including X-Men: Apocalypse and Superman Returns, and was also rumoured to have fought with Halle Berry on X2.
