Four people killed in serious collision in Wexford

Four people are dead after a devastating road accident in the South East this evening.

The four people - a couple in their 70s and their two sons, both in their forties - had come to Ireland from the United States for a family funeral.

It is understood a couple, both in their 70s, and two sons, who were in their 40s, were travelling to attend the funeral of a relative in New Ross when the collision occurred yesterday evening.

The vehicle and lorry were both travelling eastwards towards Wexford. All the occupants (three males and one female) of the auto were fatally injured and pronounced dead at the scene.

The collision involving a vehicle and a lorry happened at around 6.30pm.

They were all the occupants of the vehicle, and were pronounced dead at the scene.

Emergency services are still at the scene and the road will be closed until tomorrow afternoon at the earliest, gardaí say.

They are investigating if the driver of the auto attempted to turn on the road just before the collision with an articulated lorry travelling behind it.

In a tweet they said: "Traffic collision Templeville Road close to St Mary's Rugby Club".
